Lil' Seapups Program
Our Seapups program is for swimmers who are interested in gaining swim strength and developing their strokes. Swimmers are typically between the ages of 4 and 8, however, we do support and accommodate those that may be older than this. Summer swim provides a unique opportunity for your child to develop as a swimmer, make friends, and be a part of a community team with kids of all ages. We focus on teaching the basic swim strokes (freestyle and backstroke), proper kicking technique, back and front floats, streamlining, and beginning dives. Our goal is for your child to fall in love with the sport, swim confidently across the pool, and get ready to join our competitive program.
The Lil’ Seapups Program includes:
- One-hour classes 5 days a week during the summer swim season which will run May 27th through July 18th. Seapups are placed in groups by coaches depending on skill level.
- Group size is limited to 25 swimmers, so register early online.
- Classes focus on developmental freestyle and backstroke skills, basic racing techniques (including starts!), and building stamina.
- At the end of the program, we hope to see all of our Seapups swimming competitively. When a Seapup masters a legal stroke, the Coach will speak to the parent/guardian about competing in a swim meet.
- Seapups are invited to attend all of our events, including our end of season Awards Banquet.
Please note that the Seapups program does not replace swim lessons and is not a water readiness class. Your child is ready for the Lil’ Seapups program when he/she meets the following:
- Must be 4 years old by June 1st.
- Must be willing to leave their parent or guardian to join the group in the pool independently. It is very important that our Seapups are willing to transition easily as we have access to the pool for just one hour.
- Must be comfortable in the water and willing to jump in the pool without a flotation device.
- Must be able to swim unassisted for a few meters and/or float unassisted. This may include holding a kick board while swimming.
These requirements ensure that all of our Seapups and instructors have a safe and productive swim season! Seapups will be evaluated for these skills during our assessment on the first practice. If your child cannot complete these tasks, or is younger than 4 years old, please consider level I swimming lessons.
